Music ReviewWarren Bennett - 10 Years of LifeBy David B Aussie talent often goes off-shore for validation and to become recognised and famous. Kylie Minogue, Darren Hayes and Keith Urban are but a few examples of this. What is worse, much Aussie talent goes unrecognised and never reaches its potential. Brisbane guy and local Aussie talent Warren Bennett is one of those artists who has the goods and has yet to be signed with a record label here in Australia. His music (similar to the great sounds of John Mayer and Pete Murray) is inspiring, real and great to listen to. In this article, I review Warren Bennett's newest album, "10 Years of Life", and hope you get to know the sounds and talent of this artist. Enjoy! Warren BennettWarren Bennett is locally respected a a musician and performer in his home town of Brisbane. As an independent artist without a label, his music is real, not manufactured and a great example of Aussie talent that has yet to reach out to Aussie and international audiences. With his band members Cheyne on guitar, Mitch on bass and Dane on Drums, Warren Bennett and his band are a tight unit with a rich acoustic sound. Much in the genre of artists like John Mayer and Pete Murray, Warren offers husky vocals and a classic balladeer sound that keeps him in that good company. What makes him different are the genuine lyrics and songs about everyday life that are real. Its stuff we can all relate to: love, loss, work, play, freedom and regrets. Whatever mood you are in, Warren's music has something you can connect with. After all, it is all about 10 years of life; it shapes up and rocks out. With radio airplay on a range of stations around Australia, Spain and the UK, Warren has also enjoyed some success in having his sound shared in the USA. His song "A Great Day Tomorrow" featured on a compilation album call Acoustika Volume 7 which sold around 10,000 copies and was played at over 20 college radio stations. Not a bad achievement from an unsigned boy from Brisbane! With a sharing and caring attitude, Warren has most of his songs on his MySpace page where fans can listen to his music, contact him and, when time permits have a chat online. If you like the album, buy it!
Warren's band members - Cheyne on guitar, Mitch on bass and Dane on drums. The band are a tight unit with a rich acoustic sound and they play honest, live, LIVE music. 10 Years of Life - The Album and His Life As the name suggests, Warren Bennett's new album, 10 Years of Life, is about a decade of experience where Warren has shaped his music. The album features songs that share his good times and bad ones. With uplifting tones in "Great Day Tomorrow" and melancholy, heartfelt acoustic ballads like "Burn", 10 Years of Life has it all. There is an innocence to Warren's voice, the lyrics and sounds of the songs. A little reminiscent of Ben Lee, Warren has a sound that is a little more street and is without Ben's quirky sounds and the nerdy image. While there are comparisons, Warren's music is completely original in its writing, arrangements and the emotion with which it is played and performed. The album is well worth listening to and Warren Bennett, in conjunction with Champ Magazine, is giving away a free, signed copy of his album. Click here to go to the competition. Coinciding with the release of his new album, Warren and his band will go on a national tour of Australia, playing in some of the major capitals and regional centres. Check his MySpace page or contact him directly to find out if he will be in a location near you. Whether it is something to listen to on the way to the coast this Summer, or to chill out after work, this album is great driving music and it is in my car's stacker as a regular fixture. I suggest you do the same. Get behind this local artist - he is all heart and good honest Aussie music that both rocks you up and winds you down. I give this album 5 out of 5 guitars. "Lots of people compare me to Pete Murray and other artists with a similar sound, but sometimes they are compared to me - I like that."
"No artist is complete without a band to back them up. I'm lucky to have found a great crew who complete the sound, not just support it."
